Will Rogers Birthplace and Museum

While camping on Oologah Lake we went to the Will Rogers Museum and his Birthplace Ranch up there.

I found a great deal for the museum on groupon which we have used before also. So if you are wanting to go, you might want to check there first.

They were having a special family day so they had some hands on activities for the kids!

The girls enjoyed grinding corn and watching butter be churned.

When you have kids with allergies there is always a bit of disappointment that comes when food is around (they were letting people try the butter) but it was still interesting.

The basement has a little kids area.

We drove over to the ranch on the next day.

It is such a beautiful place.

My kids loved the animals.

Even the ones that escaped their pens 😉

These goats had knocked off a board and would come and go as they pleased. Ha

I really enjoy learning about Will Roger and his family and the ranch is like a peaceful retreat.

Have you been to the museum or ranch? I think he is a great part of Oklahoma history.

Will Rogers/Wiley Post Annual Fly-in

One of my girls heard about the fly-in on the radio and asked if we could go.

I had never been to one so I had no idea what to expect.

Right when we were parking a plane flew over our heads.

I think we could have left after that and my kids would have been impressed.
There was singing, impersonators, bounce houses, and tons of airplanes taking off and landing. They might have gotten hot and tired towards the end but they had a good time. This therapy dog was perfect timing.

We had just lost our dog the day before and they loved just sitting and petting her.

I loved that they told me she helps people calm down and so they were super calm while petting her.

Thanks for a great, kid friendly event!

Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch

My favorite thing about this place is how peaceful it is.

You can tour the inside of the house which is beautiful. My kids like all the animals they have. They even have a little petting area in the barn. This peacock scared my oldest girl!

It was making a bunch of noise in the barn loft.

I did not know there used to be a state park where the ranch is and that they have some hiking trails there. The trails went through tall grass so we did not go far.

It has been a bad year for ticks and chiggers.

So we have been sticking to nice, open hiking trails.

Beautiful views of the lake though. We walked on an old road down to the lake. This boy was concerned that cattle were roaming and he was wearing a red shirt… This looks like a nice peaceful scene but Mayflies were out in droves… They would fly all in your face.

It gave us the opportunity to talk about the short life of a Mayfly though.

Science win.

She is on fire with her poses right now… Mayfly landed on my hand.

I let them see it up close but then could not get it off.

Lots of interesting colors of grasshoppers. My youngest son took this. “Caution Open Range Wildlife” The Ranch is so pretty.

I don’t go on as many field trips with just the kids and I because I am so outnumbered but this one went really well!
