My month so far…

There has been a lot of swinging.

Some cookie making and eating…

Grandparents visiting!

Goodbyes are hard for my oldest.

My youngest has decided all the bugs in the world are his pets.

They had a tick as a pet the other day, yuck.

I informed them it was not cute and we were not  keeping it!

My oldest thought this fat guy was a snake.

Might need to check his eyesight…

My husband deserted me for a few days for a conference.

I thought I would use the opportunity to eat really healthy and try new things.

I think the above pic was the only healthy thing I ate while he was away.

I did try to stay as busy as possible and moped around the house the whole time though!

We went to the zoo with friends one day.

It was really good for my sanity.

I had about 10,000 extra words I needed to use on someone while Nick was gone.

I like to talk, a lot.

He is back and everyone survived! YAY!

Next time I will try for the healthier eating…

Maybe.

Sometimes I forget…

Sometimes I forget I have boys. I know that sounds odd but I do!

Almost two years ago I made my boys a rope swing, it worked but the rope was a little stretching so someone bigger (me) could not swing on it without dragging on the ground.

It was not in a the prettiest location either. We have a shortage of trees with big branches here for some reason.

I wanted it on the big cottonwood tree in the front of our yard but it was too close to the road so it ended up between our house and the shed.

I have had visions of a beautiful swing in that cottonwood ever since.

Last week I could not stand it any longer and bought myself some thicker, less stretchy rope.

With the thought that I would make a swing that everyone could use in the cottonwood tree.

Like bigger children of course…

I ended up not getting enough (that stuff is expensive and I am cheap!) so I left one end tied to the tree while I tried to figure out what I wanted to do.

Then this happened.

I have boys, they do not want a pretty swing.

I would have ended up having to push them since they are too lazy to figure out how to pump their legs anyway.

I am too lazy to push them.

It is a vicious cycle, that laziness…

They would much rather be Spiderman swinging from buildings then sitting quietly watching the sun set while I take pictures of them in the beautiful light.

What was I thinking?

They are obviously heart broken about the unfinished swing.

It is hard to tell how far off the ground you are when your eyes are closed.

That boys cracks me up!

It is on a hill so they get more air time then with the other swing.

So for now, I am going to enjoy my happy mistake, and my two dirty, rough, loud, little boys.

For those of you that read about the last time I made a rope swing…I made a BUNTLINE HITCH AGAIN!!!!!

I am ready for my rope tying badge.

I did that!

Saturday while my husband worked tirelessly on our new shed and I did the same thing I have always done, nothing. I decided on a change of pace.

We bought a rope to put up a rope swing for the boys because…well I said they needed one.

I felt bad for pestering Nick to put it up since he was building a shed and I was doing nothing. So taking my husbands advice I went inside and looked it up.

He might have meant look it up and get all the information together so it would be ready for him to put up but I decided it was a challenge.

When I saw this tutorial, I thought I can do that.

Now I am not one of those people that know everything about knots. I have been pretty proud of myself for the past lets say twenty years for knowing how to do a slipknot.

So when I saw things like Buntline Hitch and Figure Eight, I almost backed out.

But my stubborn side kicked in.

While Nick was inside for a little bit I went outside and threw the rope in the tree and after only three tries I got it right!

I did all my new fancy rope knotting things and went in to get Nick.

He was a little surprised and worried (our CHILDREN will be the ones using it and he is fond of them).

He said, “you didn’t really tie it all by yourself did you?”

I was jumping up and down(I get excited okay) and used the words I had kept saying quietly to myself so I would remember them.

“I used a BUNTLINE HITCH! And a FIGURE EIGHT knot!!!

I think he could have acted a little more impressed.

It is not everyday I tie a rope in a tree and actually have a name for the knot.

And it is still there!

He did give me a “good job baby” after he figured out the rope was not going to fall right out of the tree.

The boys were not sure about it at first and Nick(being the loving husband he is) threatened them with taking it down if they did not go play on it.

I might have been pouting a little bit that they did not love it.

That got them moving.

My littlest guy has decided he loves it after I showed him he can sit instead of stand on it and says, “WEEEE” the whole time he swings.

So I am happy.

justinswinginMaybe I will do something crazy like make them a tree house next!

Or maybe not…
