We went camping for Christmas! ~Sequoyah State Park, OK

We stayed at the Seminole Campground in Sequoyah State Park from the weekend before Christmas until Christmas Eve.

I tried to make the camper a bit more festive.

We were for in for a bit of surprise when we got there.

We were told that all trails were closed for the weekend for an open hunt.

I had already booked in advance and had no clue so it left me scrambling a bit to find things to do for two days.

Thankfully the nature center was open so we went there twice.

Since our main reason for staying at this park was to hike I was a bit disappointed and wished we had been told beforehand.

We filled our first full day with driving to the Sequoyah Bay State Park and driving to Muskogee to see Christmas lights.

Sequoyah Bay State Parks trail was very muddy and hard to find since the trail is not kept up well so we did not hike long.

The lights at Honor Heights Park were so pretty!

Great display!

I was excited to try to take some dramatic Christmas light pics with my kids…

Then I remembered who my kids are.

Pretty pics were not on their bucket list.

ha

I really liked making instant oatmeal in the camper.

After eating, we made another trip to the nature center and traveled to the J.T. Nickle Wildlife Preserve.

What a beautiful place to visit.

They have a scenic drive as well as hiking.

We had a beautiful spot on the lake.

Monday the trails opened and we decided to make up for lost time.

Our plan was to do a giant loop around the park but that proved difficult with several parts closed due to winter and flooding.

We did finally figure out how to park so that we could hike back to our camper to eat lunch and then hike a different way back to our vehicle for around 8 miles total.

I was smiling pretty big because our girls came running when they saw we were about to get a pic alone…

We had a few flooded parts of the trail we had to work around but we did mostly a loop.

The next morning we tried waffles for the first time in the camper and it was a huge hit! We hiked the fossil trail for our last trail before heading home.

If is a great short trail if you have a fossil lover.

Do you camp for the holidays?

Haw Creek Falls Recreation Area and Campground ~Hagarville, Arkansas

The entrance to this campground is a bit intimidating at first since it is a water crossing. And then you proceed into the campground and are greeted by lots of information on flash flooding and escape plans…

But it was one of my favorite campgrounds I have stayed at!

We stayed there for the girls and my birthday last week and it could not have been more perfect. They loved all the adventures to be had there and I loved the beauty.

The boys are enjoying sleeping in a tent and getting a bit more space.

This beautiful waterfall is why I chose this one.

I was taking a chance and had several backups but this ended up being perfect!

No cell service so we used our radios often.

If this campground was not already fantastic enough the kids and Nick found this amazing stream behind it. It was like something out of a fairy tale. The kids loved exploring it and I loved taking pictures. There are no amenities and only vault toilets but it is such a beautiful place I could have stayed there for weeks.

I will be sharing more of what we did in the area also, we have been many times and always enjoy it.

Arkansas is so beautiful.

Full campgrounds and amazing waterfalls ~North Shore, MN

After Nick got home from Poland, we left for the North Shore in Minnesota.

Lake Superior is one of my favorite areas.
We were getting there at the end of a holiday weekend so we thought we might be able to find a spot without reserving but I called on our way just to be sure.

They were booked.

And furthermore, it costs $10 to reserve a spot which bumped up the price quite a bit.

The Eckbeck was in the perfect location and the price was great($14 a night) but it did not have water or electric.

We were borrowing my in-law’s camper so we did not have are usual setup which meant no heat at all while we were there.

Since the boys were staying in a tent I thought we could tough it out at least for a night.

It poured our first night.

The boys ended up getting soaked and bailed out to the vehicle.

We ended up getting them a new tent that was hopefully a little bit drier.

Our first hike was in Tettegouche State Park to High Falls.

It was a pretty hike and brought back all the memories of when Nick and I backpacked in this area several years and kids ago…

Tettegouche is a beautiful state park! All of the kids wanted to see a cave down below so Nick held onto them just to be safe.

It made for fun pictures!

I opt for easy one pot meals while rving.

We went down to Gooseberry Falls and Split Rock Lighthouse State Park the next day. Nick is great at the technical shots like water blur on this waterfall!

After a very rough first night, Nick suggested that I go to the lighthouse alone since there is an entrance fee.

I did not stay long but it was a nice quiet look at the lighthouse and the view from there.
Afterwards we all went to a spot in the park you can go down to the water and see the lighthouse. The kids saw a scuba diver and decided to try out the freezing cold water… I got a lot of video of screaming kids when the cold water touched them. We were gearing up for a big day the next day and hoping we would get more sleep for it!

We paid one night at a time for our camping spot because we were not sure we could do 4 nights with so little sleep!
