Going to Miss This ~Teaching my boys

writingI have days where it feels like it will never end.

mathtimeThere also days where I cannot imagine a more rewarding job.

mathgameOne day these two little boys will graduate.

My teaching gig will be up.

I know I will miss the pencils and paper.

The books stacked everywhere.

aread8426I will miss teaching my two little men.

As I teach them today I want to remember how precious and fleeting it is.

And what an amazing gift I have been given to spend so much time with them.

Is there something you want to cherish today?

That little gap toothed smile?

Tiny fingers in your hand?

Little shoes by your door?

Little eyes that watch your every move?

Take a moment to enjoy it today.

Creation Study ~Day 6 Land Animals & Man

books insidebookAs always we are using the “Answers in Genesis Curriculum for kids” for our history.

I bought “Dinosaurs for Kids” by Ken Ham for the animal part of our study.

It goes through the different ages of dinosaurs sometimes giving the evolutionist view as well as the biblical view.

We have been talking a lot about the fact all animals were created to be herbivores.

It is something that is easy to forget when you look at a Great White Shark…

zootrip watchingWe went on a zoo trip at the end of our study and I had the boys point out what day the different animals were created on.

It was such a simple exercise but so good!

I also threw out another day once in a while.

Like “I spy something created on day 3!”.

It was a tree.

bobcatWe also watched videos on the Answers in Genesis website.

You could study anatomy with Day 6, I had thought about it but ended up going easy on our last week of creation instead.

This study has been so informative for me!

I love when I get something out of what we are learning!

I will continue studying the timeline for the rest of the school year.

Right now we are learning about Jubal and Tubal-Cain.

I really like how much this gives us the big picture of history in the bible.

I feel like ancient history and the bible are mostly kept separate from each other.

But they should be taught together!

What better way to understand the Israelites slavery in Egypt then to study Egypt at that time?

Here are the other days of creation and what we did for them.

Day 1 Light, Day & Night

Day 2 Atmosphere

Day 3 Dry land & Plants

Day 4 Sun, Moon, & Stars

Day 5 Sea & Flying Creatures

Creation Study ~Day 5 Sea & Flying Creatures

I am going to be honest with you guys.

The last week’s of our creation study will not be as project and experiment filled.

I got a little burned out of scouring the web every week looking for experiments.

So when we got to animals, I was really happy to take a little bit of a break!

day5booksWe are still using the Answers for Kids bible curriculum and really liking it.

I am doing it a little slower in places then they call for but it was meant for a Sunday school class so I knew I would be making changes.

These two animal guides are amazing.

sharksWith public places becoming more and more inundated with evolution it is nice to have a book that tells about the animal in a way that honors the creator.

I like that each animal has the day it was created on there.

We used these for reference during our study.

birdsI let the boys pick out a Wild Kratts(a kids show about animals) show to watch each day.

It had to be about an animal that was created on day 5.

They also picked out library books about day 5 animals.

My 5yr old picked out a bird guide.

Then he stated we did not need any other bird books because he had them all in his BIRD GUIDE.

Ha!

We also watched some videos on the answers in genesis site.

Both animal guides can be found in their store.

whitesealFor literature we read Kipling’s “The White Seal”.

Kipling did not write cute little animal stories.

In The White Seal they talk about the people coming and killing a lot of the seals for food.

It might terrify some children.

The boys were upset but I pointed out they eat cows…

I am mean.

Kipling was such a great story teller though.

I love his stories!

fromaboveYou could also read something by E.B. White, or if you have young ones the book “Owl at Home” would work.

I recommend reading the creation of narnia to your kids while learning about creation.

It takes place in the book “The Magician’s Nephew” at the end of chapter 8 all the way through chapter 9.

It is an absolutely beautiful description of creation.

I read the book to the boys without really realizing how much it tied into what we were learning about!

Here are my previous Creation Study post’s.
