Field trip to Bartlesville, Ok

Since we were studying Oklahoma history and crude oil last month, I was really excited to find a petroleum museum close to us!

The Philips Petroleum Company Museum in Bartlesville, Ok.

It had mostly static exhibits but I figured it would be that way so I was prepared.

It was still interesting and free!

Any chance I have for the boys to SEE history I jump at!

The boys love a chance to explore something new.

I do not tie them down at all.

We skip around a lot in a musuem like this.

They had hula hoops!

They had a lot of products that come from a chemical found in petroleum.

Seeing this made the whole trip worth it 🙂

I was wearing a dress but I took pity and showed them how it worked.

Glad there were not big glass windows right behind me for people to look in.

Oh wait, there were…

They did have a barbers chair that they encouraged people to try out!

The boys took turns giving each other shaves and haircuts.

As soon as my oldest saw the touch screen he gave the place five stars.

They are touch screen crazy.

The best I could do at the time to get us all in a shot!

Right next door is the city museum!

It is small but was interesting.

The boys liked this manikin that talked.

They may have watched “The Night at the Museum” one too many times though.

They were a little concerned about him coming to life.

My youngest wanted to know if we were going to turn into one…

We visited the site of the Nellie Johnstone #1.

They have a replica sitting on the site.

It is HUGE!

I loved that the boys got to actually see the scale of these things.

They do re-enactment with water gushing out of it but I am not sure when.

There is a lot more to see while in Bartlesville also!

Be sure to look up what to do in a place so that you do not miss anything!

Ft. Gibson & Sequoyah State Park

This is the second time I have been to Fort Gibson in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.

It is such an interesting place!

I would advise going during one of their events.

They have a spring and fall encampment where re-enactments are going on the whole weekend.

We missed the fall encampment by a week…

I looked at the city website and it was wrong.

Oops.

A lot of the rooms are set up so you can see what they would have looked like.

The boys wanted to look in every single one.

There are several things to do in the area.

When we went in the spring we also went to the Azalea Festival at Muskogee.

This time we went to Sequoyah State Park & Lodge.

They have an amazing nature center!

When we got to the nature center it was closed for the day but there were a bunch of deer just hanging out!

Caden played with the coyote.

It was so funny, they were following each other!

I want to go back again when we can go inside the center.

We went a long time ago but I think the boys would like it even more now!

They do have some hiking trails also.

We only went on a short one because it was getting late in the day.

Check out these two awesome places in North East Oklahoma!

The Nina & The Pinta

We headed out to Muskogee, OK Saturday to see replica’s of the Nina & The Pinta.

They were two of the ships in the armada that Columbus sailed with in search of a new passage to Asia (finding the new world instead).

Whenever I get the chance to touch and feel history I jump at it!

“What’s down there anyway?”

When I was telling my kids about the ships before we got there, my oldest got really excited and thought we were going to sail across the ocean.

Then my youngest thought up a plan to make that happen. He said, “I am going to push it and jump in and sail away! Do you think that will work?”

No, you may not steal the ship.

My little pirates.

The Ni̱a РMost Historically Accurate Columbus Replica Ship Ever Built

The Niña is a replica of the ship on which Columbus sailed across the Atlantic on his three voyages of discovery to the new world beginning in 1492.  Columbus sailed the tiny ship over 25,000 miles.  That ship was last heard of in 1501, but the new Niña has a different mission.  We are a floating museum, and we visit ports all over the Western Hemisphere. (Taken from their site.)

One of the crew members that sails around on her.

It was a great experience!

They are only here until December 7th, then they sail to the next port.

Adults are $8

Children $6
