Broken Cameras, Rentals, and Lakes

My main camera (Nikon’s D600) broke on me over a month ago.

I have been using my old camera (D300s) but we rented a D850 for a week and I am in love!

I just got it yesterday and could not resist going out to the lake to play. My girls put up with my insane picture taking a bit more than my boys. ha Mostly, they were happy I was distracted with playing with the camera so they could launch walnut boats. They actually ask for me to take their picture 😉

Well at least if I take one of their pictures they will.

She hides a lot of sass behind that smile 😉 I have decided maybe renting camera equipment should be my present for every birthday.

So much fun!

Happy early birthday to me!

My husband got my birthday present in the mail! My birthday is not until November 11th(eleven, eleven it’s easy to remember), so this made me a little worried he would decide to not let me know what it was or have at until then!

Patience is not one of my strengths.

I was at the computer in the dining room and he decided to open the package in our living room(just a few feet away). “Don’t look” he said.

Is he kidding?

I am good so I did not look.

Then I start hearing this, “WOW, it is a lot heavier then I thought.” and “I wonder how this works” I started yelling that I was going to look if he did not cut it out!

Then he said, “I guess I could give it to you now but then you would not have anything to open for your birthday.”

“That is okay, we are going hiking for my birthday.” I was trying to sound all calm but I really wanted to have my gift NOW!

Did I mention I am horrible at waiting(pregnancy was not fun for me, 9months of waiting!)?

So finally he brings over a card reader and sets it in front of me. “Here you go.”

Then then a little bit later he asks for my camera, still not letting me see what else he got.

Then he said, “smile”! While taking a picture of me with my new lens!!!

I was jumping up and down and squealing!

What can I say? I like camera equipment!

The only problem was that it was nap time and all my subjects were asleep.

It was the first time I was happy when one of them woke up early!

It had nothing to do with the fact I kept going in their room.

I got to have some fun while hiking this morning! hikingwithnewlensFor all the camera buff’s out there. It is a 50mm 1.4!

I am in love.

The end.

Never too young?

My oldest boy is going to be four on Saturday!

He is getting to that lovely age where nap time is no longer an everyday occurrence. As a stay at home mom I have counted on nap time to have time to reflect on the sweetness of my children and recover from whatever they did pre-nap.  So to make sure I still have some alone time(they call them breaks in the workforce), I started the quiet time rule. I read about it in a homeschooling book(which I plan to do this year). I read about a mom that had all her children go to their rooms and play quietly every afternoon for a little bit and then I realized I could do THAT!!!

His little brother(2yrs old) still takes naps so I have him lay down in the library for half an hour or so…that is at least how it is supposed to go. I think he knows I am a pushover, he will call my name until I go in there. When I ask him what he wants he says, ” I have something really important to ask you. Can I get up?”

When I finally do let him come out ,his brother is still usually sleeping. Have you ever tried to keep a almost four year old quiet before? If anything they get louder.

Yesterday, I decided to take some pictures on my nice beautiful enclosed porch that my awesome, wonderful, greatest man in the whole world made for me!

I had a crazy idea that was probably born out of “no more nap time” desperation…

I let him use one of my Nikon’s NikonboyfingersI love those little fingers on the buttons!

But I was happy that he let me take lots of pictures of him! That NEVER happens. Nikonboybw

The lens I let him use is an old manual one that was Nick’s Grandfather’s, he gave it to me last Christmas to use and I love it!

The focus is manual also though so Justin had his work cut out for him(what does that saying even mean?)

Here is one(he took over a hundred) of his shots, I kept tweaking the focus hoping one of them would not be a blur.

He keeps saying that he wants to be a diver when he grows up so I asked him if he wanted to be an underwater photographer instead.

You have to start brainwashing…I mean guiding them young.
