Hats, haircuts, and washi tape…

I could have just titled this post random but where would the fun be in that?

hat

First off, I made a hat from a sweater!

Usually these sorts of things are epic fails for me but this one worked out!

sideslouch

I actually mashed together three different tutorials to make this.

This was another reason I was surprised that it turned out.

For the sizing part, I used this one.

For how to cut it into a slouch shape and how to connect the top, I used this one.

For how to sew the top, I used this one.

I did all of the sewing by hand since I do not have a machine.

slouch

I like how it turned out but if I did it again, I would probably cut it in more of a rectangle like the last link.

clips

I wore this all day and really liked it!

Score for being to cheap to buy a new hat!

smiles

In other news, this boy was in dire need of a haircut.

upsidedown

We were hanging out at their fort and I was thinking how nice it would be to cut it outside.

before

I then remembered that the extension cord was still out by the fort because Nick is still working on it.

hair

So this wild haired boy went inside and got the clippers…

silly

It’s gone!

growl

No more wild hair!

Plus, no mess to clean up!

after

I think he was happy to be rid of it.

Too much maintenance.

Also, I gave up on washi tape for my family wall.

I tried two different kinds and it peeled right off.

I am still too cheap to buy more white picture frames right now though so I just hung some of the prints with these clips I found at Hobby Lobby.

Has anyone else tried to hang things with washi tape and it failed?

Chase

I realized the other day how seldom I take pictures of my boys outdoors playing in the beautiful light.

I used to have to sit outside with them and I would just snap away.

They do not need me to be outside with them all the time anymore.

But I decided to follow them around and get some images of them playing in the beautiful light like when they were little.

run

Something else has changed.

They do not sit and play in the dirt in one place.

They are running 90% of the time they are outside.

There are battles to be fought, places to defend, training to be done, adventures to be had.

I love this age.

They were a little easier to photograph when they needed to hold my hand for balance though…

A Death Star, a Fireman Pole, and a 7yr old!

I now have a 7yr old!

climb

He asked for a fireman pole to be added to their fort for his birthday.

firemanpole

He said this way when they are fighting bad guys their are two ways to escape so he and his brother can both get away.

The Zipline and the fireman pole…

smile

I am glad he planned for this possibility.

gifts

We hauled the rest of his gifts from family up into the fort to open.

It is more fun and my brother and his wife did not have to go into our germy house(we have had colds).

legos

geosafari

I am pretty excited to use this geosafari in our school.

europe

bug

Thank you Mom for the scary bug thing that crawls along the floor…

deathstarcake

He requested a Star Wars themed birthday.

I looked on Pinterest for an easy cake design but all I found were elaborate creations that I could not even dream of making.

I did however find macaroons decorated like the Death Star!

So I put a little black food dye in the icing and tried my hand at it.

The dots were made with a toothpick dipped in black food coloring.

I was not sure about it at first but my son knew what it was so I calling it a success!

darthvadar

My oldest thought Darth Vadar should guard it.

eatcake

The birthday boy requested the Super Laser Dish part.

He got a real kick out of eating it.

I am excited to see what this year will bring!
