30 Day Project ~Day 11 “Jasmine Moran”

We finally visited the Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum in Seminole, Ok again!

It had been over two years since we went last and since they are on the Oklahoma Museum Network I wanted to go before our membership expired!

Yes my boys dressed up in superhero costumes to go to the museum.

My youngest only wore the Robin suit bottoms…

The last time we came my oldest would not go in this climbing area.

He almost did not this time but I urged him to go down the slide and just like that he was okay with it.platform climb waterworks

I really like their waterworks area.

We got to try out their Locks and see how they work!waterworksinside room shopping

It was a little harder than I thought it would be so I was really relieved that we made it though.me

This place is huge!

I feel like it is never ending.

The boys love it of course and I am exhausted by the time we leave.

Typical Children’s Museum.

If you live in the area you really should check it out!

It is worth it!

Eagles!

In case you did not know, January and February are the peak eagle watching months in Oklahoma.

You can find out information about that and other things going on in the state at TravelOK.com.

I find it easiest to find cool new things in our state by pretending I am visiting and just a tourist.

You go out of your way to find cool festivals and places when visiting a new place, why not do the same where you live?

tulsapark The first place we checked for eagles was the Keystone Dam because we had seen them there before.

But when we got there the bridge was closed for construction.

I went to the Keystone State Park right next to it and asked at the vistor center if they had any eagle nests(make sure you ask, they keep close tabs on them usually).

She said that the nest that has been there for years fell down!

She also directed us to old 51 between the park and Sand Springs.

eaglesnestSwift Park is right off old 51 and is mostly just a parking area with a ramp, we did see these two nests across the river.

seagullsWe only saw these guys and some Great Blue Heron’s though.

We moved on to her next recommendation, River City Park in Sand Springs.

nestWe saw these guys in the park next to the Soccer fields!

I would think they would pick a quieter place than the soccer field but it made it easy for me!

watchersHere is a list of the top ten places to see an eagle in Oklahoma and some tips from the TravelOK site.

You can actually go right under this nest, we tried to maintain a good distance and were very quiet so as not to disturb them.

flywatchingpathThere is a walking/bike path in this park that goes right by the nest.

ducksAfter searching all morning for eagles we stopped to get some books at the library.

booksI told the boys they needed to read them on the car ride home.

They were in the back quietly reading until they read something interesting and than they would read it out loud to share it.

It was amazing.

Proud Homeschooling Mom moment and the easiest lesson I have ever “taught”.

Honey Springs Battlefield Re-enactment ~Checotah, OK

Even though we went out to the battlefield on Friday for the educational day, I still wanted to go to the battle re-enactment on Saturday.

camp stand sword flagMy boys decided they want to be drummer boys.

They really hate dressing up and playing with guns so I knew re-enactments would hold no appeal to them.

shoots lines drummer fireFor some reason this guys rifle was REALLY loud.

The crowd gasped when it went off.

loudI think I have seen this same look on my boys faces when they are sword fighting or shooting at each other.

I am not sure boys ever grow up.

I think their weapons just get more expensive.

flagbarrier shoot2 sitting drummers calvery ammoIf you are wondering who won this battle it was the federal’s.

The federal’s were the government soldiers stationed at the nearby fort.

You can read about it on the battlefield website, here.

federals

canon canonfireThe canon fire was LOUD!

It kept setting off the car alarms.

Which made everyone laugh.

Car alarms seemed a little out of place with all the battle sounds.

friendsIf you want to encourage an interest in history in your kids I would highly recommend these living history events.

History was loud, dangerous, and exciting!

It was not meant to be contained in a textbook.
