Cohokia Mounds State Historic Site ~Collinsville, IL

I wanted to stop here the last time we passed but I could not do all those steps!

This time I made sure we stopped!

It is so fascinating to me that these large civilizations existed back then in North America!

You can go to the top of the largest mound! Lots of steps!

A perfect activity for antzy kids that have been stuck in a car! They have an amazing museum! It was so interesting.

With lot’s of interactive exhibits.

Have you ever been to the Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site?

It is a great stop, right outside St. Louis!

Still here just…reading

I have become a bit addicted to reading in the last month or so.

So much so that other things like blogging and social media kind of fell by the wayside.

ha

I wanted to make sure I shared about the Azalea Festival going on in Muskogee this month though!

We went last weekend and were a little early for most of the flowers but it was still beautiful!

I need gardens like this at my house!

And someone to take care of them…

The cold seemed to keep most people away which is just how I like it.

Ha

They have a Tulip Garden now!

So pretty!

There are so many pretty trees!

Check out more about the Azalea Festival, here.

Battle of Round Mountain Reenactment ~Yale, OK

The Battle of Round Mountain was a civil war battle between a band of Unionist Creek’s and Seminole’s’s  and Confederates.

I do appreciate the people at these events with a passion for history.

This man was fun to listen to.

The union camp.

Trying to decide what to buy.

Trying to salute.

My perspective on these events has changed since we got our daughters.

That flag makes me sad every time I see it.

I hate having to teach my daughters that people with a different color of skin were looked at as lesser people.

I am glad the war was fought.

I hate that there was a need.
