Revolutionary War books for kids

Let it begin here was amazing and powerful.

Paul Revere’s Ride has beautiful illustrations to go along with the poem.

The Scarlet Stocking Spy makes me cry.

For God and Country is an amazing audio series that makes you feel like you were there. It made me cry also…

It covers more then just the Revolutionary War, we will be using it throughout the rest of the school year.

Revolutionary War on Wednesday is another well done piece of historical fiction by Mary Pope Osborne.

She really makes history come alive for kids!

There are resources to go along with her books to supplement your lessons.

I did not use these lesson plans to go along with the book this time because I had enough for my boys to do but I am definitely keeping these in mind for later!

There are so many more great pieces of historical fiction for the revolutionary war, I am just sharing some of my favorites.

Our School Day

We have just started doing All About Spelling Level 1.

It is way to easy for my oldest and not really difficult for my youngest at this time.

We skipped to the middle of the book to start and now I am just asking them to spell a word from the lesson, if they both get it easily then I skip to the next lesson.

Hopefully we will get to some things they do not know soon.

Their grammar is having them do dictation now.

Everytime I so much as paused in our lesson my oldest would pick up his book.

I hated telling him he needed to leave it alone until after school.

It just seems wrong to tell your six year old to stop reading…

Snack time for the boys = me reviewing their math lesson for the day.

We finally broke out a science kit I bought a while ago.

We made a lime battery.

The boys were pretty disappointed that we were not doing the other experiments in the kit that day.

School is done so it is quiet time for the boys and project time for mommy!

I will share what I am making after I finish! I really like how it is turning out and it goes in my newly painted kitchen!

I am using these shots for my 30 Day project.

I will probably change it up a little bit and not focus on including myself in every shot.

I am still trying to think of ways to catch us all in our everyday life though.

1st day back!

Day 6

Teaching my son to read.

Today was our first day back after Christmas break!

The first part of the school day was as follows:

50 States songs on youtube, here and here

The Pledge of Allegiance (I have been trying to do this every school day)

Reading

Writing (we use Writing without Tears)

Grammar (First Language Lessons for the well-trained mind)

Then we take a short break that includes a snack.

2nd half of our school day:

Math (RightStart)

History (we read about Daniel Boone)

Science

We are studying Electricity for science this month.

My MIL got the boys Magic School Bus science kits for Christmas!

I thankfully remembered one of them was on the subject we were doing!

We were just going to check it out today but since the first one was easy we went ahead and did it.

I unfortunately cut the boys hair just last night so it was a little short to be impressive.

Like a good teacher I offered up my own hair in the name of science.

These kits are quickly becoming favorites!

I am thinking I might just have to go ahead and get one for every science subject we cover.
