Government Springs Park ~Enid, OK

atrailDSC_7554

There is a park in Enid where the Oklahoma Land Run and Chisholm Trail meet!

That alone would be a fun reason to go and just think about all the Oklahoma history that went through there but it also has some fun educational plaques about the history, a garden, and a nice walking path.

It was a fun way to introduce my girls to some Oklahoma history.

The boys have learned this before but it is always good to remind them.

We talked about what the man had with him and if they would want to spend the night like that.

He had just staked his claim.

There are also some silhouettes of a cattle drive.

Geese freak anyone else out?

Just me?

Ok

The Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center is right next to the park and looks amazing!

It was closed on the day we went but I definitely want to go back and check it out!

We were on our way to the Gloss Mountains State Park so this was just a quick break from driving.

Such a fun historic place though.

Wouldn’t it be fun to get some books about the land run and cattle drives to read while there!

It would definitely help history come to life!

Dripping Springs Rendezvous ~Okmulgee, OK

These events just make me happy.

The people at them love history and enjoy sharing that love and knowledge with people.

I am so glad we popped in on the way to the Talimena Drive for my birthday.

History really comes to life at these events.

You feel like you have stepped back in time.

If nothing else I hope they came away thinking that history is interesting and alive.

And that it prepped them for the really long drive we took that day to the Ouachita Mts. HA!

Shakespeare ~3rd & 4th Grade

My boys studied Shakespeare to go along with Galileo and the Conquistadors.

That is why I love learning via timeline, you get to learn about things that don’t seem to go together.

They really liked “The Winter’s Tale“, “Will’s Quill“, and “Hamlet.”

Although my oldest(9) read a lot of the Lamb’s Tales of Shakespeare as well and seemed to like it(free version available for Kindle).

Later on I found some really interesting interactive sites for Shakespeare.

Literary Wonderland has a really cool rap version of Macbeth!

The BBC site has a fun game they can play, here.

They also have a 60 second version of Shakespeare that is like reading about the tale in the newspaper which I thought was fun, here.

My boys spent a lot of time on the Modern Library site, playing their shakespeare quizzes and games.

Their favorite part of this study was probably the live sword fight from Macbeth that we saw at the Natural History Museum in OKC.

They could probably watch sword fights all day.

Because they are boys…

Do you have a favorite resource for Shakespeare?

Just found this so I am adding it for my future reference.

Shakespeare Solos, actors performing key speeches from his plays.
