I did it! Sort of…

mess

After years of saying I was going to paint my door red I finally did it!

I decided to do it while my husband was gone for 6 weeks.

I like projects when he is gone.

Sometimes…

Maybe I just like the idea of a project.

When I actually start it that is another story.

curtain

We had a beautiful week of under 90 temps and I knew I had to seize my chance!

My mom gave me this great idea to keep the bugs out!

I was just going to leave my door wide open for 3 days…

red

I used Olympia brand paint and was not all that happy with the coverage.

It would have been worth it to me to get a brand that would have taken less coats.

I do love the color though!

I did three coats of paint and it still needs another one!

I was out of nice days though so it will have to wait.

Which translates into, never going to happen.

beforeandafter

My new beautiful red door is making my porch look a little shabby…

Maybe I will paint it!

I should get to it in 5 years or so…

The porch might look shabby because someone(maybe me) tried to pull it down with a garden house and a vehicle…

Nope, I am sure it just needs some paint!

Summer Reading Program ~Year 2

readingprogram

Even though we went ahead and used our library’s reading program this year, I still decided to do our own like last year.

decorate

I take cardstock and let the boys decorate it for log books.

inside

On the inside is a simply numbers and boxes for them to keep track of the books they read.

books

Then we went to the store and I let them pick out their books for prizes.

rewards

One of my oldest books is already gone from this picture because he read all day to earn it.

He could not stand to wait after picking it out!

reading

I really enjoy doing our own program.

This year it was more about keeping up the momentum they had from the library’s program.

If you like to make things pretty, check out this site.

She has free printable to make your own reading program!

I know that some people do not live close to a library also so this would be a great alternative!

A garden teepee.

I saw the idea on SouleMama’s blog.

Her blog is so beautiful you can’t help but find something inspiring there.

She made teepee’s in her garden for some of her climbing plants to grow up on but also so her children could play in them.

I loved the whimsy and I really wanted to do something similar for my garden.

She used branches but I did not really have any I could use so I bought these bamboo poles at Walmart for less then a dollar a piece.

I bought the twine at a farm store but I think Walmart carries it also.

I held the four poles together and just wrapped the twine all around the top.

Then I started at the bottom of a pole tying the twine to one, then wrapping it around and zig zagging my way to the top.

I left two sides open because I was worried about blocking this path for my dog.

It is right next to my vegetable and herb garden and I was worried she might choose to walk through that instead!

My Morning Glories are already climbing it!

I get to see this everytime I look out my kitchen window and it always makes me smile.

Do you have anything that makes you smile in your garden right now?

Something fun or maybe even silly?

You should!

My Pervoskia has just started blooming also!

So much to smile about in my garden right now.

Hope you find many things to delight in today!
