Fireworks, Birthdays, and concerts, oh my!

Our fourth of July celebrations were a little packed this year. Our oven gave out and our new one was delivered that morning. We ended up staying home from church to wait for the oven. My husbands birthday is the fourth and I might have had him install my oven on his birthday…I bought him a cheesecake! That makes it okay, right?

Since the fourth landed on a Sunday our churches celebration(Rockets Over Rhema) ended up that day also (it is always on Sunday so it is not always on the fourth). We stayed for the some of the concerts and walked around a little bit but left before the fireworks.

We left just in time to make it to our own towns Firework display, it was a little close…I am not always good with time management. But we made it, that is all that matters. The anxiety in finding a parking spot and hoping I did not spoil the boys chance to see fireworks just adds to the excitement of the day I think.

I had to play around a little bit since I had the tripod set up and the cars were driving right past me! fireworks4What did you do for the fourth?

Watermelon Days of Summer

Watermelonboys

Boys seem to have a gene in them that requires that they destroy things and make a mess. If my boys do not get that need fulfilled in a constructive way they tend to destroy my house.

Anyone else have this problem?

I am a big advocate of letting boys be boys and men be men but I would really rather they not pull over bookshelves to fulfill that need!

Eating watermelon seemed like something they could do where we all come away happy. They make a mess eating(outside) and I get two little non-moving(for the most part) subjects!

Now I just need to find something they can destroy that does not leave me speechless, closing my eyes and hoping the mess/disaster goes away without my help.

Any suggestions?

watermelonboyshappyLook how innocent they look…not like they would dump out a potted plant on the floor just to play in the dirt.

They would never do that.

My Family

Important lessons I learned while taking pictures of my family:

1. Never assume your children care that you are a professional and should therefore be able to get a good family picture

2. Never tickle someone when you are above them on a slide

3. Never tickle someone when you are extremely ticklish
