Western Trails at Heyburn Lake, OK

maddie2

Sheppherds point on Heyburn Lake has many trails to choose from but some of them like the western trails are not open during hunting season because they are in a Wildlife Management Area.

run

We were in between huntings seasons a few Saturdays ago so I wanted to hike before the trails west were cut off again.

northtrail

We took the North Trail to get to them.

mud

The low places were a little muddy so going up or down hills was pretty interesting.

YAY!

grass

The grass was pretty tall and close to the trail so I would imagine chiggers and ticks a problem in the summer.

nick

We took our dog Maddie along so she could get some exercise.

tongue

She got worn out pretty fast.

done

We ended up leaving her and Nick near the road before we were done.

She just could not handle it.

I finished the hike with the boys and drove back on the road to pick them up.

All together we did over 5 miles.

It was great to go on a trail that is close to us that we have not already done several times!

41st Street Plaza ~Tulsa, OK

playground

I had been to this riverside park a while ago but did not get to spend much time checking it out.

We went back last month.

climb

It is a pretty park with some nice playground equipment but I felt like my boys were a little old for the park.

The water features especially seemed geared more for little ones.

It worked out okay since not many of the kids wanted to play in the water that day but the boys would have been really bored if they were not allowed to splash due to small kids.

crawl

kick

I allowed it as long as no other kids were nearby.

Their vivid imaginations came in handy as well.

splash3

They pretended to be alligators for a long time and that made it a fun place for them.

This would not have worked again if their were many kids around since they were taking up a whole water feature.

sleep

They enjoyed it since it was something new and different but I am not sure we will make this a regular stop.

alligators

If you have little ones that do not really like the big splashpads with lots of water going everywhere than I think this would be a great place for you to bring them!

I have read that the water stays on until October 1st, does anyone know if that is true?

All the other splashpads turn off after Labor Day.

This post makes me miss the carefree days of summer.

We are on our third week of school and still feeling the adjustment.

Only 170 more school days until summer…

Hiking in the Rain at Ray Harral

forestbridge

We got hit with some amazing, cool, rainy, weather last week!

I took the boys to Ray Harral Nature Park one day when it was raining with no lighting.

Hiking in the rain is one of my favorites things to do.

In case you are wondering how I took pictures in the pouring rain, I used a modified ziplock bag.

Like this one on Instructables.

I am thinking I might need to move to Oregon or Washington.

Do you live where it rains a lot?

What is your favorite thing to do in the rain?
