They are racing for the shade.

It was a little bit hot.

The education center was closed when we went.

I am not sure if it is only used for school trips and stuff?

Martin Park Nature Center

We found out that the nature center was closed for construction after we got there.

So you will want to check the status of that before you go.

This place had really nice easy walks but we ran into seed ticks while there. I am wondering if it was from the bridge or tower.

We stayed in the middle of the path and usually can avoid them if we don’t brush up against grass.

Thankfully a baby wipe got a lot of them off.

Acadia Lake State Parks

We actually parked here so Little Bit could take a nap!

It was really hot that day but by parking in the shade right next to the lake, it was not bad at all.

This trail does not seem to get much use.

The farther we went the smaller the trail so we turned around.

I try not to take trails that are too narrow in the summer here.

Sure enough we got ticks from this one as well.

Arcadia Lake is really pretty though and has lots of camping options.

Might need to make an rv trip here someday.

Oklahoma Railway Museum ~OKC, OK

We were not ready to go home yet after going to the Museum of Osteology so we stopped by the Oklahoma Railway Museum for a short visit.

It actually worked out pretty perfectly.

They had a playground for the kids to play on and they got to go inside some of the rail cars!

This is my favorite shirt…

It is free so a quick stop worked out great!

Everyone got any extra energy out for the drive back!

Just for fun I looked up pictures from the last time we went for our oldest’s birthday.

Seems like a different lifetime.

Museum of Osteology ~OKC, OK

This place is really cool and the staff is super friendly.

The Museum of Osteology or if you are like me the Bone Museum(I did not want to fumble the name when I said it out loud) is small but like nothing I have seen before.

They provide scavenger hunts and give a prize out for finishing.

Little bit was sure she was doing exactly what the big kids were doing…

abonesDSC_8387

It is oddly fascinating to see all these animals just as skeletons.

The kids were determined to finish their scavenger hunts!

There are two floors to the museum and it is laid out like a box, with displays along the perimeter as well as bigger displays in the middle.

Check out the Skulls Unlimited site to see some cool videos about how they clean the bones.

The even had Mike Rowe do a dirty jobs with them!

I look up if museums have scavenger hunts before we go.

They are such great learning tools.

abonesDSC_8426 abonesDSC_8428 abonesDSC_8429 abonesDSC_8431

I like how they made these skeletons come to life.

The snakes still looked menacing.

abonesDSC_8432 abonesDSC_8435 abonesDSC_8440

The museum offers so much to touch.

I wanted a pic of Little bit to show the scale of the elephant.

Of course my other children walked into the shot…

abonesDSC_8457

I am not sure how often we will end up going but I am so glad we went at least once!

It was such a unique museum to see!
