The “Leap of DOOM!” ~Lake McMurtry

My oldest girl and Nick ran in the Lake McMurtry run last month!
This was the only hike I went on. Some camping trips are not as great as others. This place is beautiful it just ended up being a harder trip.

These signs were fun though from the race! She listened to the signs and thought it was too big of a jump. They always make a big deal of this jump. The hype get’s bigger every year. “I’m a camera!” Cutest camera ever! I guess I went on two hikes technically. Nick dropped me off while we were driving and I walked the rest of the way. Sometimes a peaceful walk is just what I need.

This was our second time camping here.

It is really a beautiful campground!

Maybe next time we can hike more of it!

If you want to see more of our hike (including my littlest’s camera work) check out the video!

A weekend at the Lake and a 25K.

It all started with a race my husband did last month.

It is called the Snake Run and my oldest said he did not want to run it this year.

It is a 3hr race that you try to get as many miles as you can in that time.

As soon as the race was getting ready to start my son changed his mind of course and wanted to run.

Too late.

We told him he could run the Lake McMurtry Trail Run if he wanted to though.

This was going to be a bit different though since Nick was running the 25K.

He still said he wanted to do it so we headed over to Lake McMurtry on friday night to camp the night before the race.

At first I thought camping was a bad idea.

We were only camping one night and that is a lot of work for that short of time.

But if we had not camped, I would have missed this sunset on the lake.

This sunset was worth all of the packing, prep, and dealing with wasps in the camper.

Before and after!

I asked my son if it was long and he said, “yes, and tiring.”

I also asked if he would like to do it again and he promptly told me “no” but a few minutes later said “maybe”.

HA!

I probably would have said no after running all of those miles as well!

This is a great event!

The volunteers and workers do such an amazing job putting on these runs.

Thank you for making trail running exciting for my eight year old!

For more information on the actual run check out Ken’s blog, here.

Lake McMurtry ~Stillwater, OK

We camped at Lake McMurtry to check out the trails for a trail run my husband was going to do.

There are over 27 miles of trails there!

There are two sides of the lake you can camp on so check out there site before going.

Sweet boy.

They have nice signs letting you know how many miles you have done.

Break time!

Here are some pics from the weekend we went back for the Trail run.

Practising his roping skills the night before the run.

My husband starting his 25k trail run!

The boys and I walked along the lake while Nick ran the trails.

He finished!

It was a pretty nice place to visit.

They are under new management so things are still getting a bit of a face lift.

I would not mind going again though.

We still need to hike those trails on the east side of the lake!
