Thanksgiving at Devil’s Den State Park ~Part 1

    Wednesday, December 4th, 2013

yellowrock2 top 1sthike woods thesemenWe went camping for Thanksgiving at Devil’s Den State Park in Arkansas.

    It was wonderful and amazing.

The first hike we did was Thanksgiving morning on the Yellow Rock trail.

It goes up to a lookout and is about 3 miles.

stove thanksgivingWe cooked some slices of ham on the little stove Nick made for lunch!

    So good!

There are 3 different loops you can do. We took the Sawmill loop for part of it but crossed the river and took another trail back.

pieI made two sweet potato pies to bring with us!

    So good!

I eat the other food just to get to the pie…

    That water was so perfect.

I love the water in Arkansas so beautiful!

I saw many other families out enjoying the day together.

It was definitely an amazing way to spend a day about thankfulness.

    How did you spend Thanksgiving?

Are you a pie junky like me?

I bought two more pie crust’s but I am scared to do anything with them!

I have no self control once something is in my house.

I keep it out, that is the only self control I have…

    Now I want pie.

Why I say no during the holidays…

readingI am not someone who thrives on a busy schedule.

    I am the opposite!

More then one thing on my calendar to go to in a week makes me break out in hives…

So for the holidays simple is better.

I do not want to say yes to so many things I have left no time to enjoy any of them.

I also like to leave room for something unexpected.

Last year we realized Nick had some extra vacation time he needed to use so we packed up in December and headed off for the Grand Canyon!

I am so thankful I did not pack my calendar with things I had to do so I could say yes to this!

So many amazing memories were made!

bridgeI do not regret saying no.

I enjoy those yes moments all the more because of it!

Moments with family and friends, seeing Christmas through my boys eyes.

I do not have to rush out and buy a lot of gifts.

If I have to rush around for something I will probably say no.

I understand some people love the busyness and shopping but I do not.

    I enjoy the little moments.

So if you hear me say no this holiday season you know why.

    I am enjoying.

    Have a blessed Thanksgiving!

This was the star of the Thanksgiving feast for me.

    Sweet Potato Pie.

I love it way too much.

My husband bought flowers for me!

The next day we got the Christmas tree out.

I decided these were moments I would miss and I had to get some pictures!

Don’t forget to capture your kids enjoying the holidays.

They will not always be this little.
