    I wanted something witty…

I thought I could come up with something funny and clever for this picture I got of a duck while out canoeing with my family(FYI 7 people in a canoe will get laughs…).

Then I realized it is six in the morning and I use up all my brain power on my 5 kids.

After I got over my fear of one of my kids dumping us all in the lake the canoe ride was not too bad.

    Not calm but not bad.

Also, we may need a bigger canoe.

    Canoeing ~Lake Sahoma

Right off of Lake Sahoma in Sapulpa is a nice place for us to canoe.

It is listed on some maps as a Water Fowl Sanctuary.

We brought Maddie with us this time!

    She did great!

I did not do as great with the tilt she kept adding to the canoe…

I have a fear of tipping.

    These trees were so pretty!

    water2 workers

The boys are getting pretty good at paddling!

Pretty soon I can just go along for the ride.

Okay, so I do that already when I want to take pictures.

But at least now Nick will have help!

    water4 creek carp

It looked like the Carp were spawning.

I am not an expert but from what I could find, that seemed to be what was going on.

    carp2

The water would suddenly go crazy when you went over it in the shallows!

We saw a lot of big carp(also a guess, I am not an expert on fish).

    egret2

I really enjoy all of the wildlife we get to see while canoeing!

    ducks

It had been awhile since we had been canoeing.

    fly

Saturday ended up being a perfect day for it!

    swim

We like to get off the beaten path were possible to see the really amazing stuff.

The boys like to be dropped off to walk and explore.

    egret

We started to see a lot of Egrets and Heron’s.

Then the boys started to run loudly and I despaired of seeing any wildlife.

    running

Their loud running ended up disturbing a nesting site for Heron’s.

    landing

I did not even know they nested in groups.

    nest

It was one of those awe inspiring moments.

    nest2

Sometimes it is months between seeing anything remarkable while hiking and canoeing.

    nest3

But these moments always make it worth it.
