  • Museum of the Great Plains ~Lawton, OK

    September 22nd, 2017

We went to the Museum of the Great Plains while camping at the Wichita Wildlife Refuge.

The first time we went to this museum it was filled with a lot of static exhibits that were not much fun for my kids.

This time was a pleasant surprise.

    aamusDSC_5419

    Almost everything was hands on!

My kids enjoyed this museum so much and so did I!!!!

The tornado shelter simulator is terrifying and amazing.

It really feels like you are waiting out a tornado in a shelter.

This is how they taught them what the parts of the bison were used for.

    Amazing.

Everything was set up to let my kids step back in time and imagine.

They are a part of the Oklahoma Museum Network so we got to see something we are familiar with!

    Tape Slides!

We visit the Tulsa Children’s Museum often so my kids have been playing on their tape slide for a while.

They have even more cool stuff outside!

This was our favorite part on our previous visit.

They have a fort set up outside.

    aamusDSC_5667 aamusDSC_5671

I highly recommend going to this museum!

    Especially if you have kids!

The best part is if you have an Oklahoma Museum Network membership it includes this museum!

    So no extra cost!

    Tulsa Discovery Center ~Tulsa, OK

    December 18th, 2017

Here are some of my favorites from our recent trip to the Tulsa Children’s Museum.

    achild8401bw achildDSC_8416

We brought a friend with us so she will pop up in some of the pics also.

    achildDSC_8428bw

They change out exhibits pretty often so it is not the same things over and over.

I had not been in a while so the only thing not new to me was the tape slide and toddler/baby area.

    achildDSC_8438bw

My youngest boy spent most of the time building this wagon/sled and the rest of the time giving rides to kids.

I think if left alone, he would build quietly all day.

With three little sisters and a brother though that never happens…

    achildDSC_8461bw

    achildDSC_8468bw achildDSC_8480bw

Dad helped him improve his design a bit so it would be easier to pull.

    Which meant it went faster…

    Oops.

Have you checked out the Oklahoma Museum Network?

This is one of the museums on it along with several other really good ones.

    Here are my posts on the others;

    Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum

    Leonardo’s Children Museum

    Museum of the Great Plains

Science Museum Oklahoma(I don’t have a recent post up yet)

    Beautiful place.

    amuseDSC_5216 amuseDSC_5219 amuseDSC_5225 amuseDSC_5230 amuseDSC_5245

I like to hike in the morning and evening.

    Beautiful light and cooler temps.

    amuseDSC_5249

As a photographer I think it is totally acceptable to ask that we only hike in the golden hour…

Nick took the big kids to finish the hike to the top.

Little bit and I hung out in this amazing spot with awesome views.

After this hike we ate lunch at the camper and went into town to go the Museum of the Great Plains.

Since this is already a long post, I will do a seperate post from the museum.

After visiting the museum we had vehicle trouble!

    amuseDSC_5676

We hung out in a car parts store parking lot for a while and had no clue if we would be able to drive home the next day.

Let alone make it back to the campground.

    amuseDSC_5679

We stopped at a nearby park to let kids run off energy and so Nick could research(our campsite did not have any cell service).

    amuseDSC_5685

After none of our efforts to find a shop to repair it or a reasonable rental that fits a family of 7 we headed back towards our campsite.

    amuseDSC_5702

It was an interesting twist to our vacation but gave me a glimpse into what full time travel might be like.

If you break down, you don’t know anyone around to help fix it.

    amuseDSC_5718

I was thankful for Nick offering to stop at a spot on the way back to the campsite.

Our vehicle was running rough but we made it back(it was a holiday weekend so our options were limited).

    amuseDSC_5727 amuseDSC_5729

This place just shows off at sunset.

    amuseDSC_5738 amuseDSC_5748

I had no clue what the next day would hold but loved ending a somewhat stressful day on such a beautiful note.
