Lake Tenkiller ~Strayhorn Landing & Hickory Flats

strayhornlanding

We first swam at Strayhorn Landing on Lake Tenkiller.

lake

It is a nice rocky swimming area.

The boys had a lot of fun playing around and practicing their swimming.

naturetrail

There is a nature trail between Strayhorn Landing and Tenkiller State Park.

It is only a mile out and back (two miles total) but I was not really dressed appropriately.

sandles

It just goes from a parking lot to the Overlook park.

You can drive to the overlook park as well.

snakes

We stopped at the Nature Center in Tenkiller State Park and happened to be there when they were feeding the snakes.

These rodents have zero survival skills…

We also went to the Hickory Flats area in the state park, it was a no fee area for swimming.

It had a really nice beach area but was really crowded so we went to a creek at goose neck bend to let the boys swim.

This lake has really nice clear water and I can’t wait to take the boys during the week when it might be a little less crowded!

Have you swam in Lake Tenkiller?

Do you have a favorite area?

Visitor…

I decided I would be a nice wife and mow our backyard.

I heard something when I got on our lawn mower but since we have a lot of lizards I did not think much of it.

I was a bit surprised when I backed up the mower to see this guy slither out.

copperhead

I am pretty tolerant of snakes that are outside.

Copperheads and other venomous snakes are the exception.

This is the second one we have found at our house.

Every time I see them my first thought is, “let’s move north…”

It had made itself a nice little den under our ramp going into our shed.

Thankfully it stayed there until my husband got home and took care of it.

They are such beautiful creatures it seems a shame to kill them but they are very dangerous.

Do you have Copperheads where you live?

Maybe I should come live with you…

I think I will be wearing boots and carrying a shovel to the shed for a while…
